Child Psychotherapy

I am specifically trained to work with children.  I work with children from the age of 4-years-old.  I work with the family together and/or the child on their own in therapy sessions depending on needs. Modalities of practice I use in child therapy include Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Behavioral and Cognitive approaches, as well as Solutions Focused and Somatic Processing. I also incorporate Animal-Assisted Therapy using my therapy chickens, Henrietta & Erv, in sessions as appropriate. My office is fully equipped with toys, arts and crafts to help children relate in therapy sessions and feel comfortable.

Adolescent Psychotherapy

Our office offers a private space for young people to talk and share their worries and concerns. The modalities that I offer range from talking to creative arts, sand tray work, TF-CBT to target specific trauma, Somatic Experiencing to work with body awareness, outdoor walks and working with chickens and/or my horse using and Animal-Assisted or Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy approach.

Parenting

I have advanced training in IoWA-PCIT therapy, which is a parenting-based form of therapy that is based on behaviorism and behavior modification. Using positive approaches providing immediate rewards, PCIT techniques help parent reshape challenging behaviors to be less disruptive and more prosocial.

Adult Psychotherapy

I also welcome adults for therapy. I offer a comfortable and safe environment to explore and process daily living. I use a variety of techniques, including  CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Somatic Processing and Solutions-Focused, to help clients address distress and gain desired outcomes.

Online Sessions

Online therapy can be a beneficial alternative to room-based therapy, especially if travelling to in-person therapy is challenging, or you require non-traditional therapy times, such as early morning or late at night.

02.

In working with children and adolescents, clients often find Family Therapy sessions to be beneficial. Especially when family members experience relationship stress and haven't been able to come to agreement. Family therapy sessions are conducted in either my office or our conference space that features a large table, white / market boards.

note:  I do not provide intimate partner "couples therapy" services at this time.

03.

Outdoor Psychotherapy involves having our session outside of the therapy room in nature.  Our Washington Township, Michigan office, is located adjacent to the paved Macomb Orchard Trail. The paved foot and bike paths provide ample quiet spaces to walk or bike, take in nature and not be overheard by others.  With our therapeutic intentions in mind, we can walk or bike & talk or just sit down outside and become immersed in nature, wildlife and the elements.

04.

Animal-Assisted Therapy consists of goal-oriented and structured interventions that intentionally incorporate animals for the purpose of therapeutic gains. At its core, AAT recognized that the human-animal bond is a mutually beneficial and a dynamic relationship between people and animals that positively influences the health and well-being of both. In my practice and when appropriate, I may  incorporate the use of my birds as therapeutic partners in individual or small group sessions.

05.

Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) involves working with horses to help humans.  It is a growing experiential treatment where children, adolescents and adults can interact with horses, in their natural environment, to improve their own mental health and general well-being.  EFP involves a variety of activities, such as spending time with the herd, communicating with them, observing their movements, reflective grooming, walking and equine games. The beauty and reward is in the process rather and not necessarily in the end goal.  It is a process where skills of patience, resilience and hope are built. In my practice, I use my personal Andalusian horse, Antares, as co-partner in EFP sessions. Antares is a calm and wonderful gelding, with a kind sole, who loves everyone and has demonstrated himself to be the perfect companion for EFP work.

Please Note:  EFP sessions are held on specific dates throughout the year, at an off-practice location, in a country setting where there is enough quiet space to conduct sessions where we will not be disturbed and will only be overheard by nature.
