What Does a Typical EFP Session Look Like?

Prior to EFP session, we determine if EFP would be beneficial for you / your child. If yes, prior to the EFP session we draft Goals and Objectives for our EFP sessions. At the the beginning of each session we will assess your sense of ease in the presence of the horse and at your own pace get to know the horse and its ways of being and how we can feel safe enough around them to do the work. Sometimes, the work will involve reflecting on your feelings or energy levels in the presence of the horse from various distances and working to change that in the present moment, which usually involves an instant feedback from the horse. Other times, the work can involve activities with the horses, such as moving them around at liberty. Sometimes, we observe the horse from a distance and draw correlations between the horse's behavior in response to select emotions and that of humans. Often, we include art-based activities to record the encounter, which serves as a reminder of how you / your child can incorporate aspects of EFP in daily living and encounters with others. You / your child is with me at all times and the horse is always wearing a halter and on lead to ensure safety.
